I put a $550 DIY silencer build up against a $2,000 Upstream Data Black Box to see if a modified Coleman cooler could actually quiet down a Bitcoin miner. After a mid-build miner swap and some trial-and-error with fan kits, grommets, and airflow, I got the noise down from a roaring 80 dB to a much more livable 60-62 dB while keeping hash rates and temps healthy. Whether you’re mining at home or just curious what it takes to tame ASIC noise on a budget, this build shows what worked, what didn’t, and whether it’s actually worth doing yourself.
