Ravencoin is facing a serious consensus-level security incident after a flaw involving KAWPOW block validation was exploited on mainnet.
Malformed blocks were reportedly accepted because the height declared inside the KAWPOW header could differ from the block’s actual blockchain height, potentially allowing an attacker to bypass part of the GPU-intensive KAWPOW validation normally expected.
2Miners identified block 4,487,776 as the first exploited block and block 4,487,775 as the last known clean block. In one sample of 2,089 blocks, 2Miners reported 96 malformed blocks — about one every 22 blocks.
Their emergency fix rejects the affected history and rebuilds from block 4,487,775, creating an emergency rollback and competing Ravencoin blockchain histories.
That means RVN miners need to know which chain their pool is actually mining. During the incident, different pool infrastructure was reporting heights separated by thousands of blocks.
