BIP-110’s first Bitcoin chain split failed after its minority branch produced only two post-split blocks and stalled. The original proposal is now closed, but supporters are discussing something much bigger: a separate Bitcoin-derived hard fork using a different proof-of-work algorithm.
That could mean abandoning SHA-256 on the new branch, resetting difficulty and creating a network that today’s Bitcoin SHA-256 ASICs could not directly mine.
In this video I break down why the BIP-110 branch stalled, why a hard fork is now being discussed, the possible three-chain scenario, OCEAN and Start9 changes, and the new algorithm-selection attempt. Blake2b initially appeared during the selection process, but the result was disputed and remains unconfirmed. SHA3X and other algorithms have also been discussed.
There is still NO confirmed final mining algorithm, NO finished public hard-fork client, and September 1 is NOT being treated here as a confirmed launch date.
For miners, the big questions are which algorithm wins, what hardware can mine it, where the fork happens, how difficulty is reset, which pools support it and whether exchanges treat it as Bitcoin, another coin, or ignore it.
