I finally turned one of my RTX 3090 rigs into a real Vast.ai GPU host — and it actually got rented.
In this video I take an RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 7950X-class AM5 system, 64GB DDR5 and a 2TB drive and build my first Vast.ai host using the Rabid AI Host All-In-One Installer. The installer handles the Linux setup, NVIDIA drivers and host deployment, and it also lets me compare estimated earnings across Vast.ai, Clore.ai, OctaSpace and Nosana before choosing a platform.
The big question was whether this would even work on my internet. My upload speed is far below what I would want for serious AI hosting, and I had to move back to an older connection just to get port forwarding working.
But after a few days, the RTX 3090 was RENTED.
Then things get even more interesting.
I open the Rabid AI Watcher I’m developing and look at the host-side telemetry, temperatures, power, utilization, rental time and the visible container/workload running on the machine. In this rental, the process appeared to be running HTK miner NGV1 — meaning the GPU I listed for compute was being rented to run a crypto-mining workload.
The Watcher is being built to track multiple AI hosting rigs, alert when rentals start or stop, monitor errors, trigger automated fixes/reboots and give me one dashboard for my hosted hardware.
We also look at current AI hosting earning estimates and why the most profitable platform can change depending on the GPU.
