Bitcoin III, also known as BC3, suddenly EXPLODED for GPU miners — but there is a very important reason why the profits became so crazy.
BC3 is another Bitcoin-derived fork that switched to the SHA3-256t mining algorithm at block 30,240, opening the network up to GPU mining instead of traditional Bitcoin SHA-256 ASICs.
Then the perfect storm hit.
BC3’s price started pumping, GPU hashrate flooded onto the network and block times dropped dramatically while difficulty had not yet caught up.
The result? Blocks were being found far faster than intended, daily coin emissions surged and GPU mining profitability temporarily went through the roof.
In the video, we compare what an RTX 5090 could have mined when BC3 was still below one cent versus what those coins became worth after the price spike.
We also look at one extreme early-miner example discussed during the livestream: roughly 2 million BC3 accumulated using a small group of RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 GPUs. At $0.17 per BC3, that theoretical balance was worth around $340,000 — and around $200,000 at $0.10 — BEFORE considering whether enough market liquidity exists to actually sell it all.
But there is a huge catch.
This profitability likely isn’t sustainable.
Once BC3’s difficulty catches up with the increased hashrate, block times should normalize and current profitability could disappear very quickly. We saw a similar problem with BC2, where massive hashrate arrived, difficulty increased, miners left and the network was later stuck with extremely slow block times.
Could BC3 follow the same path?
And if we eventually see BC4, BC5 and more Bitcoin-derived GPU forks, could catching them early become an entirely new GPU mining strategy?
