The 45-day XBT lockup is ending, and miners are about to start getting paid. But there’s a catch: a new 180-day lockup is coming right behind it. In this video I break down exactly when your XBT unlocks, what changes, and what it means for miners.
WHAT I COVER
– The 45-day lockup: it turned on at block height 973,440 (Sept 21). Locked coins need 6,480 confirmations (about 45 days) instead of the normal 100, and each block runs on its own clock.
– The unlock schedule: the first coins unlock around Oct 31 (block 979,920) and the last around mid-December (block 986,398), about 20,260 XBT in total.
– The 180-day lockup: starts at block 979,919, needs 25,920 confirmations (about 180 days), and anything mined from the end of October can’t move until about April 2027. Roughly 81,000 XBT would be locked at any one time. Hashrate swings can make this sooner or later.
– My thoughts on how the lockup was decided.
– Node update: you need Bitcoin Knots 29.4.3 or the blocks you find can be rejected. The Rabid Pool installer is already on it.
