Coinbase has received official approval from <\/span>Argentina\u2019s<\/span> National Securities Commission (CNV) to expand its services in the country, the exchange <\/span>said in a Tuesday, 28 January 2025, blog post<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration allows the exchange to introduce new offerings, including local payment methods in Argentine pesos, as it strengthens its presence in the Latin American market.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having operated in Argentina since 2019, Coinbase initially offered crypto-to-crypto conversions and trading. However, with this regulatory green light, the exchange can now operate within the <\/span>country\u2019s<\/span> legal framework for virtual assets, enabling it to roll out a broader range of services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coinbase\u2019s<\/span> Approval Comes After Binance Registration<\/span><\/h2>\n

The approval follows <\/span>Binance\u2019s<\/span> successful registration as an official crypto service provider in Argentina last October. <\/span>As competition in the Argentine market intensifies, Coinbase is also investing in local educational initiatives <\/span>aimed at improving crypto literacy among citizens<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fabio Plein, <\/span>Coinbase\u2019s<\/span> director for the Americas, emphasized the importance of cryptocurrency in <\/span>Argentina\u2019s<\/span> economic landscape.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>For many Argentinians, crypto <\/span>isn\u2019t<\/span> just an investment; <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> a necessity for regaining<\/span> control over their financial futures,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Argentina faces one of the highest poverty rates in the world, with 53% of its population living below the poverty line\u2014the highest level in two decades, according to the Argentine Catholic University.<\/span><\/p>\n

In light of<\/span> these economic struggles, many citizens have turned to digital assets as a hedge against inflation and financial instability.<\/span><\/p>\n
