At about 9:16 he says,<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It\u2019s not normal for the world to simply have a unipolar power\u2026 it was the product of the end of the Cold War, but eventually you were going to reach back to a point where you had a multipolar world\u2014multiple great powers in different parts of the planet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Secretary Marco Rubio on Buying Greenland, His Trip to Panama, and How to End the Russia-Ukraine War\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S5RJwmw1ihE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Rubio goes on to say that American policy should be to further America&#8217;s interests, suggesting we deviated from that at the end of the Cold War. When it comes to trade, we arguably deviated from it at the beginning of the Cold War.<\/p>\n<p>As economist Ian Fletcher\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/america-was-founded-as-a_b_713521\">pointed out<\/a>\u00a0(&#8220;America Was Founded As A Protectionist Nation&#8221;), protectionism was the rule for most of America&#8217;s history. That only changed after World War II:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>America only seriously turned away from protectionism as a Cold War gambit to prop up capitalist economies abroad and tie them to the U.S. Geopolitics trumped domestic economics.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s no longer the case under the Trump 2.0 Administration. Geopolitics and domestic economics are becoming more aligned.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjusting To The Current Multipolarity<\/h2>\n<p>When you have the world&#8217;s strongest military and largest economy by far, maybe you can afford to be a bit lax about migration and trade.
