Thailand\u2019s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced its plan to launch a DLT-based trading platform. This aims at digitizing capital markets, including bond trading and securities issuance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Thai SEC\u2019s move comes in response to the increasing interest in tokenized investments. <\/span><\/p>\n

Jomkwan Kongsakul, the commission\u2019s deputy secretary-general, insisted on the need for an electronic securities ecosystem to cater to this demand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to local media reports<\/a> dated 3 February 2025,\u00a0 Kongsakul said that token investments are gaining traction. \u201cThe regulator has approved four digital token projects and is reviewing two more, focusing on green tokens and investment-based projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

No Specific Timeline For DLT Based Platform To Be Completed<\/h2>\n

The planned platform will digitize every step of the bond trading process\u2014from issuance and settlement to investor registration and payments. This marks a significant departure from manual processes that currently dominate the market.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the future, new regulations will be launched to facilitate the issuance of electronic securities and online purchases of debentures,\u201d Kongsakul <\/span>said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she said that competition will not be restricted. This is because the firms with their own DLT infrastructure can develop independent chains, provided they maintain interoperability under a unified standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cA standardised framework for data connectivity within the digital securities ecosystem is essential. Those without their own chain can utilise the SEC\u2019s public chain at a reasonable cost,\u201d said Kongsakul.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Kongsakul mentioned that the shared ledger system is expected to be completed soon, no specific timeline has been provided.<\/span><\/p>\n
