access to highly sensitive financial and personal data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The lawsuit, led by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/69607077\/1\/alliance-for-retired-americans-v-bessent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">was filed in a Washington<\/a>, DC federal court on 3 February 2025. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Importantly, it aims to block<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">unlawful, systematic, and continuous disclosure<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of confidential information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to the AFL-CIO, the Treasury Department, under Secretary Scott Bessent, has provided DOGE with access to an extensive database. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The database has names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and bank account details of data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he scale of the intrusion into <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">individuals\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> privacy is massive and unprecedented,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the AFL-CIO said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Moreover, the lawsuit comes amid broader criticism of former President Donald <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Trump\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> cost-cutting initiatives.\u00a0 This includes appointing Musk to lead DOGE, an agency seemingly named after the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">billionaire\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> frequent references to Dogecoin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The controversy escalated after US Senator Ron Wyden claimed in a social media post that Treasury Secretary Bessent had granted DOGE<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> \u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">full access<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Treasury\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> payment systems. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A day earlier, Wyden had formally demanded an explanation from Bessent regarding <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">DOGE\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Elizabeth Warren held a press conference on 3 February 2025.
