{"id":11266,"date":"2025-02-04T13:31:45","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T13:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=11266"},"modified":"2025-02-04T13:31:45","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T13:31:45","slug":"cmes-monthly-crypto-volumes-hits-record-high-in-january-surges-180","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=11266","title":{"rendered":"CME&#8217;s Monthly Crypto Volumes Hits Record High in January, Surges 180%"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME) has revealed that in the first month of the year, its crypto contracts saw an average daily volume (ADV) of 198,000 with a notional value of $13.6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The CME detailed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmegroup.com\/media-room\/press-releases\/2025\/2\/04\/cme_group_reportsrecordjanuaryadvof257millioncontracts.html?source=rss\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> on Tuesday that year-over-year, its cryptocurrency ADV rose 180% as its micro bitcoin (BTC) futures registered a 255% rise, while its micro ether (ETH) futures contracts jumped 223%.<\/p>\n<p>While the exchange\u2019s bitcoin and ether futures contracts have a notional value of 5 BTC and 50 ETH, respectively, their micro contracts represent just 0.1 of each cryptocurrency, allowing for more precise trading and risk management given their smaller size.<\/p>\n<p>On top of its full-sized and micro contracts for the top two cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, the CME also offers traders options on these contracts. These options enable more complex strategies to fine-tune their risk exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Options contracts provide traders with the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell cryptocurrency futures at a predetermined price on or before a specific date.<\/p>\n<p>The futures exchange recorded a total ADV of 25.7 million contracts in January.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, the CME Group announced it\u2019s eyeing the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/01\/30\/bitcoin-friday-futures-cme-group-s-top-crypto-launch-adds-options-in-february\" target=\"_blank\"> introduction of options on Bitcoin Friday Futures (BFF) <\/a>from Feb. 24, although these are pending regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME) has revealed that in the first month of the year, its crypto contracts saw an average daily volume (ADV) of 198,000 with a notional value of $13.6 billion.
