{"id":11363,"date":"2025-02-04T21:16:57","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T21:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=11363"},"modified":"2025-02-04T21:16:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T21:16:57","slug":"bitcoin-op_cat-proposal-gets-boost-from-taproot-wizards-30m-fundraise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=11363","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin OP_CAT Proposal Gets Boost From Taproot Wizards&#8217; $30M Fundraise"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Taproot Wizards has raised $30 million with which it plans to build an ecosystem of applications using the OP_CAT Bitcoin improvement proposal (BIP).<\/p>\n<p>OP_CAT is a feature that Bitcoin&#8217;s pseudonymous founder Satoshi Nakamoto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2024\/02\/14\/satoshi-era-bitcoin-function-op-cat-dusted-off-as-development-fervor-grows\" target=\"_blank\">included in the software&#8217;s original code<\/a> but which he\/she\/they removed out of concerns that it exposed it to risks such as denial-of-service (DoS) attack.<\/p>\n<p>Many developers have expressed a concern in bringing it back. <\/p>\n<p>The proposal could bring Ethereum-like smart contract functionality to Bitcoin through introducing &#8220;covenants,&#8221; or rules that determine how a specific transaction will function.<\/p>\n<p>Taproot Wizards, whose vision is to &#8220;make Bitcoin magical again,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2024\/02\/05\/taproot-wizards-recovers-from-tech-marred-debut-selling-11m-of-bitcoin-nfts\" target=\"_blank\">sold a collection of 3,000 non-fungible token<\/a> (NFT)-like pieces of digital art called &#8220;Quantum Cats&#8221; to drum up support for OP_CAT one year ago. <\/p>\n<p>The Wizards have been attempting to &#8220;meme OP_CAT back into existence,&#8221; according to an emailed announcement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder Udi Werthimer describes OP_CAT as &#8220;the missing piece&#8221; to attaining &#8220;permissionless programmability for bitcoin, allowing lending, trading and smart contracts without giving up self custody,&#8221; in Tuesday&#8217;s announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The $30 million funding round was led by Standard Crypto.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taproot Wizards has raised $30 million with which it plans to build an ecosystem of applications using the OP_CAT Bitcoin improvement proposal (BIP).
