Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell said the US won\u2019t roll out a CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) so long as he\u2019s in charge.<\/p>\n

Crypto advocates exhaled in relief.<\/em><\/p>\n

President Trump is also strongly against CBDCs \u2013 at the end of January, he banned the \u2018digital dollar\u2019 development.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this gives Bitcoin ($BTC) and altcoins another four years (at least) to mature and gain mainstream adoption.<\/p>\n

Why the US Doesn\u2019t Need a Digital Dollar<\/h2>\n

Trump\u2019s Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology<\/i> order points out that the digital dollar would threaten citizen privacy, and this is hard to argue.<\/p>\n

Some think this puts the US behind China, which has already launched the digital yuan, and the EU, which is now busy testing the digital euro.<\/p>\n

But many governments globally seem to share Trump\u2019s stance. Reuters report<\/a> reveals nearly a third of central banks have halted their CBDC efforts, although 67% haven\u2019t changed their plans.<\/p>\n

During yesterday\u2019s semiannual testimony<\/a>, Powell highlighted the Fed is focused on maximizing employment and stabilizing prices rather than creating a CBDC.<\/p>\n

After four years of researching the matter, the Fed didn\u2019t find convincing reasons to switch to digital money. Besides, it\u2019s costly, complex, and intrusive.<\/p>\n

SEC Out, CFTC In?<\/h2>\n

Powell now serves his second term as the Fed Chair. Trump initially appointed Powell in 2017, and, despite disagreements on interest rate cuts, Joe Biden reappointed him in 2021.<\/p>\n

Powell\u2019s current term will end in May 2026, but he may legally serve until 2031, assuming he maintains the President\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n

To top it all, Trump\u2019s pick for Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) leadership is Brian Quintenz, a known crypto advocate.<\/p>\n

Quintenz already served one term during Trump\u2019s first presidency and is unlikely to dispute the chief\u2019s orders. Their fellowship is particularly beneficial for the industry now that Trump plans to transfer crypto overweight from the hostile SEC to CFTC.<\/p>\n
