The executive called out for justice, naming several officials responsible for his arrest, and discussed the events of his 8-month nightmare.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Binance Executive Calls Out Nigerian Authorities<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent WIRED <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/untold-story-crypto-crimefighters-descent-nigerian-prison-binance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">article<\/a> narrated the events of Tigran Gambaryan\u2019s 8-month detention in-depth, covering the many meetings with Nigerian officials, Nadeem Anjarwalla\u2019s escape, his near-death health scare, and the efforts to set him free.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gambaryan was <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/freedom-nigerian-court-clears-binance-exec-orders-immediate-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">detained<\/a> alongside Anjarwalla in late February 2024 as part of Nigeria\u2019s crackdown on their employer, Binance. Gambaryan worked as the exchange\u2019s VP of Global Intelligence and Investigations, while Anjarwalla was the regional manager based in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the early hours of Friday, the Binance executive shared more details in an X post, alleging that the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) was involved in the exchange\u2019s staff meeting with House Committee on Financial Crimes (HCFC) members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-398189 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-10.53.58-a.-m.png?w=600&amp;resize=600%2C494\" alt=\"Binance\" width=\"600\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-10.53.58-a.-m.png?w=600 600w, https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-10.53.58-a.-m.png?w=510 510w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Gambaryan, their January 5, 2024, meeting with the DSS officials was a \u201cprerequisite\u201d to their meeting with the House of Representatives. During this meeting, the officials seemingly alluded that Binance\u2019s staff had to \u201ccomply with whatever the House members instructed us to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Executive claims that the meeting resulted in a \u201cMickey Mouse operation at its best.\u201d The officials reportedly set up fake media and cameras that weren\u2019t plugged in to make the reunion appear official. However, this was only a fa\u00e7ade to attempt to extort the crypto exchange\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you may already know, this ended with them asking for a $150 million bribe, paid in cryptocurrency into their personal wallets. A Mickey Mouse operation at its best.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/binance-ceo-denounces-nigerian-officials-for-alleged-secret-crypto-settlement-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">reported<\/a> by Bitcoinist, Binance\u2019s CEO Richard Teng denounced Nigerian authorities in May 2024 for asking for a $150 million bribe in cryptocurrencies to \u201csettle the allegations\u201d against the exchange.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bribe attempt resulted in the Binance representatives fleeing the country and declining to pay the demanded sum. Nonetheless, Gambaryan was later lured into accepting to fly back to Nigeria to denounce the incident and potentially resolve the accusations against the crypto exchange.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-398194 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-11.30.46-a.-m.png?w=945&amp;resize=945%2C289\" alt=\"Binance\" width=\"945\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-11.30.46-a.-m.png?w=945 945w, https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-11.30.46-a.-m.png?w=640 640w, https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-11.30.46-a.-m.png?w=768 768w, https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-02-14-a-las-11.30.46-a.-m.png?w=750 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 945px) 100vw, 945px\"><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gambaryan Accuses Officers Of \u2018Greed\u2019 And \u2018Incompetence\u2019<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gambaryan leveraged several <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TigranGambaryan\/status\/1890287410627358759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">accusations<\/a> against Nigerian authorities involved in his detention, including sending a letter to the US Embassy and the British High Commission, falsely claiming they \u201cwere voluntarily participating in strategic talks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He claimed that Hamma\u2019Adama Bello, an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officer, admitted to being willing to fabricate evidence to obtain a court order to detain the Binance executives for 14 days.
