Metaplanet has announced a 10-to-1 stock split set to take effect on April 1.<\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo-based firm first started buying bitcoin in April 2024 and since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/02\/17\/metaplanet-spends-another-4b-yen-buying-bitcoin-lifting-holdings-above-2k-btc\" target=\"_blank\">has accumulated<\/a> 2,031 tokens worth nearly $200 million. The purchases were the driving factor in Metaplanet being the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/markets\/stocks-japan\/market-movers-best-performing\/\" target=\"_blank\">best-performing Japanese equity<\/a> over the past 12 months with a gain of 3,900%.<\/p>\n<p>That price rise has created a \u201csubstantial financial burden for investors,\u201d the company said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Metaplanet_JP\/status\/1891641243458793564\" target=\"_blank\">in a press release<\/a> announcing the split.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo address this, we have decided to conduct a stock split to lower the price per trading unit, thereby improving liquidity, expanding our investor base, and strengthening our connection with a broader range of shareholders,\u201d the company continued.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a rocketing higher in its stock price since beginning to add bitcoin to its balance sheet less than a year ago.
