class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A slot is effectively Solana\u2019s basic block-production time unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reducing that duration can cut confirmation latency and shorten the amount of wall-clock time one leader controls block production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SIMD-0525 argues that this can improve market structure, particularly for applications where freshness matters, including oracles and market makers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is a catch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Solana simply kept the same per-slot computational and data limits while producing slots much faster, validators would suddenly have to process considerably more work per second.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the proposal scales several limits down alongside the slot time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That includes compute budgets, writable-account limits, shred limits and other parameters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim is faster timing without quietly doubling the hardware burden on the network.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Roadmap Is Deliberately Staged<\/h2>\n<p stages separately, reflecting that gradual approach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That also means the headline number should not be confused with instant finality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solana may target 250ms slots, but transaction confirmation and finalization involve considerably more than one slot duration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, shaving 150ms from the original 400ms target is meaningful at network scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For high-frequency applications, <a
