Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) executive chairman, billionaire Michael Saylor, announced a recent 20,356 Bitcoin ($BTC) purchase, raising the company\u2019s $BTC count to 499,096.<\/p>\n

The purchase cost $1.99B<\/a> at $97,514 per $BTC, raising Strategy\u2019s overall investment to $33.1B\u00a0 with an average $BTC purchase price of $66,357. Given that Strategy\u2019s $BTC reserves are currently valued at $46B, this amounts to a profit of 39%.<\/p>\n

Saylor\u2019s recent investment may seem unexpected given $BTC\u2019s dramatic free fall in the charts. However, it could revive market sentiment and help $BTC recover.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Happening with Bitcoin?<\/h2>\n

Bitcoin dropped from $95K to $86K due to dwindling community sentiment, which resulted from several events.<\/p>\n

The main one is the February 21 Bybit hack<\/a>, which was presumably conducted by North Korea\u2019s Lazarus Group, according to Elliptic analysts<\/a>. Hackers targeted a cold wallet<\/a> and managed to seize $1.46B in crypto assets.<\/p>\n

Elliptic representatives have declared that this is \u2018the largest crypto heist of all time, dwarfing the $611M stolen from Poly Network in 2021.\u2019 This breach is the latest entry to a long list of crypto heists<\/a> and explains in part $BTC\u2019s bearish fall down the charts today.<\/p>\n

The other cause is Donald Trump\u2019s tariff war. The White House announced<\/a> on February 1 that it would impose a series of tariffs on several countries in response to the US\u2019s problems with illegal immigration and drug traffic.<\/p>\n

Canada and Mexico received a 25% tariff on imports, while China got away with 10%.<\/p>\n

Finally, Jerome Powell, the Chair of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), declared during the February 12 Semiannual Monetary Policy Report hearing<\/a> that the economy is strong overall and has made significant progress over the past two years.<\/p>\n

Fed\u2019s current policy stance is less restrictive than it had been, and Powell sees no need to adjust it.<\/p>\n

This means that the Fed is unlikely to announce a rate cut on March 19<\/a>. This decision would strengthen the US dollar but put downward pressure on $BTC and the crypto market as a whole.<\/p>\n
