{"id":14935,"date":"2025-02-25T16:02:10","date_gmt":"2025-02-25T16:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=14935"},"modified":"2025-02-25T16:02:10","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T16:02:10","slug":"ethereum-layer-2-starknet-gets-first-gaming-app-chain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=14935","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum Layer-2 Starknet Gets First Gaming App-Chain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Starknet, a layer-2 on top of Ethereum, is getting its first application-chain that settles on the network.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The layer-3 app-chain, called Nums, is built off of the \u201cSN Stack,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2025\/01\/07\/starkware-launches-appchains-on-starknet-with-new-developer-toolkit\" target=\"_blank\">a customizable toolkit<\/a> that lets developers create layer-3 blockchains based off of Starknet\u2019s technology.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Nums itself is an on-chain game that lets players try to sequence a series of 20 generated numbers. Users will be able to earn $NUMS tokens by playing the game, with the tokens issued via Starknet.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>StarkWare, the main developer firm behind Starknet, originally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2023\/07\/19\/starkwares-starknet-stacks-could-add-to-growing-field-of-blockchain-in-a-box-offerings\" target=\"_blank\">shared in July 2023<\/a> that it was building the SN Stack. The announcement followed similar releases from several of StarkWare&#8217;s competitors, like Arbtirum\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2023\/10\/26\/arbitrum-foundation-says-orbit-for-layer-3-networks-now-ready-for-mainnet\" target=\"_blank\">Orbit Stack<\/a> and Optimism\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2024\/12\/10\/optimism-s-jing-wang-and-the-widely-adopted-op-stack\" target=\"_blank\">OP Stack<\/a>, which came out in 2023. This past January, StarkWare\u2019s SN Stack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2025\/01\/07\/starkware-launches-appchains-on-starknet-with-new-developer-toolkit\" target=\"_blank\">went live<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Despite various layer-2 stacks already live and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2024\/09\/13\/2945795\/0\/en\/Super-Champs-Launches-L3-Chain-on-Base-Creates-Open-Builder-Platform-for-Scaled-Web3-Games-Franchise.html\" target=\"_blank\"> layer-3 games existing on those chains<\/a>, the team behind Nums claim that their decision to build with Starknet\u2019s technology is because it allows for more \u201ccomputationally complex and more ambitious\u201d applications, said Tarrence van As, the CEO of Cartridge, the main developer firm behind Nums, in an interview with CoinDesk.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Starknet, which uses Cairo as its programming language, is \u201cmuch easier to express these types of applications,\u201d van As added. (Ethereum uses Solidity, a different type of programming language, to build its applications.
