{"id":15379,"date":"2025-02-27T18:31:48","date_gmt":"2025-02-27T18:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=15379"},"modified":"2025-02-27T18:31:48","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T18:31:48","slug":"crypto-trading-platform-bitmex-is-looking-for-a-buyer-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=15379","title":{"rendered":"Crypto Trading Platform BitMEX Is Looking for a Buyer: Sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>BitMEX, the cryptocurrency exchange and derivatives trading platform co-founded in 2014 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/01\/20\/crypto-investor-arthur-hayes-doubts-trump-will-get-around-to-doing-a-bitcoin-reserve\" target=\"_blank\">Arthur Hayes<\/a>, is looking for a buyer, according to two people with knowledge of the plans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2024\/12\/11\/as-bit-mex-turns-10-the-market-is-still-thankful-for-the-perpetual-swap\" target=\"_blank\">The storied exchange<\/a>, which arguably made perpetual futures the most popular product among leverage-hungry crypto traders, appointed boutique investment bank Broadhaven Capital Partners late last year to assist with the sales process, the people said.<\/p>\n<p>There has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/business\/company-news\/2024\/12\/31\/falconx-in-talks-to-acquire-crypto-derivatives-startup-arbelos\/\" target=\"_blank\">some M&amp;A interest <\/a>around the crypto derivatives space of late. For instance, major exchanges Kraken and Coinbase are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/02\/20\/crypto-exchange-deribit-still-in-talks-to-be-acquired-by-kraken-source\" target=\"_blank\">said to be vying for ownership<\/a> of the leading crypto options exchange Deribit. Meanwhile, FalconX also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/falconx-expands-global-derivatives-footprint-with-acquisition-of-arbelos-markets-302341536.html\" target=\"_blank\">bought Arbelos Markets<\/a> earlier this year to expand its derivatives business. <\/p>\n<p>Back in 2020, BitMEX was alleged to have failed to implement adequate anti-money laundering measures in place, and later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2024\/07\/10\/crypto-exchange-bitmex-pleads-guilty-to-violating-the-bank-secrecy-act-from-2015-to-2020\" target=\"_blank\">pled guilty<\/a> to the charges.
