The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <\/span>is set<\/span> to host a roundtable later this month to discuss the regulatory classification of digital assets. <\/span><\/p>\n

The event follows the agency\u2019s recent announcement of its Crypto Task Force\u2019s leadership team. It\u00a0 includes a mix of seasoned SEC officials and a former crypto lawyer from a prominent law firm.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a 3\u00a0<\/span>March 2025 press release<\/span><\/a>, the SEC outlined its plans for a series of roundtable discussions under the banner \u201cSpring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

SEC Will\u00a0 Kick Off Crypto Roundtable On 21 March 2025\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The first session, scheduled for March 21 at the SEC\u2019s Washington DC headquarters, will focus on \u201cHow We Got Here and How We Get Out \u2014 Defining Security Status.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Crypto Task Force lead Commissioner Hester Peirce expressed optimism about the initiative.\u00a0 \u201cI am looking forward to drawing on the expertise of the public in developing a workable regulatory framework for crypto,\u201d said Peirce.<\/span><\/p>\n

The SEC\u2019s acting chair, Mark Uyeda, established the Crypto Task Force in late January. It was meant to refine the agency\u2019s approach to digital asset regulation. Uyeda\u2019s initiative aligns with President Donald Trump\u2019s commitment to easing regulatory pressure on the crypto industry. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since its formation, the agency has dropped multiple enforcement actions against crypto firms. This includes lawsuit against Kraken, which <\/span>was abandoned<\/span> on recently.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alongside the roundtable announcement, the SEC also disclosed the 14-member line-up of its Crypto Task Force. <\/span>Among the key figures is Michael Selig, named <\/span>as<\/span> the task force\u2019s chief counsel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Selig, formerly a <\/span>partner at<\/span> Willkie Farr & Gallagher, advised clients on cryptocurrency, NFTs, and stablecoins before joining the SEC.<\/span> His now-deleted profile from the firm\u2019s website noted that he had represented companies facing regulatory scrutiny from <\/span>both<\/span> the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).<\/span><\/p>\n

Chris Giancarlo, the former CFTC chair and senior counsel at Willkie\u2014known in the crypto community as \u201cCrypto Dad\u201d\u2014praised Selig\u2019s appointment in a March 3 post on X, stating he was \u201cproud and excited for my prot\u00e9g\u00e9.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
