{"id":17158,"date":"2025-03-11T10:01:42","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=17158"},"modified":"2025-03-11T10:01:42","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:01:42","slug":"coinbase-plans-india-comeback-after-securing-regulatory-registration-with-fiu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=17158","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase Plans India Comeback After Securing Regulatory Registration With FIU"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Coinbase (COIN) is one step closer to fully returning to India after securing registration with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the crypto exchange said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Nasdaq-listed company, which was active in the country several years ago, faced a number of issues due to regulatory pressure and eventually backed away from India. <\/p>\n<p>In 2022, it started operations in the country only to suspend them due to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/05\/10\/coinbase-trading-reserve-bank-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;informal pressure&#8221;<\/a> from the Reserve Bank of India. The following year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2023\/09\/11\/coinbase-exchange-remains-inactive-in-india-while-other-operations-are-still-active\" target=\"_blank\">the exchange shut off new user registration<\/a>, while continuing to offer wallet services to Indian citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The FIU registration allows Coinbase to bring its trading services to the Indian market. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/02\/13\/coinbase-in-talks-for-return-to-india-2-years-after-exit-report\" target=\"_blank\">TechCrunch reported that Coinbase<\/a> was in discussions with regulators, including the FIU, for a possible re-entry into India. <\/p>\n<p>The Brian Armstrong-led exchange said it plans to start up retail services this year, adding that it is also looking at releasing other products and increasing investment in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia represents one of the most exciting market opportunities in the world today, and we\u2019re proud to deepen our investment here in full compliance with local regulations,\u201d said John O&#8217;Loghlen, regional managing director for APAC at Coinbase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coinbase (COIN) is one step closer to fully returning to India after securing registration with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the crypto exchange said on Tuesday.
