The project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2024\/09\/18\/hemi-labs-raises-15m-to-launch-modular-blockchain-in-round-led-by-binancelabs\" target=\"_blank\">raised $15 million in a funding round led by Binance Labs<\/a> last September.<\/p>\n<p>The project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2025\/03\/11\/ethereum-l2-starknet-seeks-bitcoin-s-defi-take-off-moment-with-btc-wallet-xverse\" target=\"_blank\">is one of several<\/a> looking to transform the broader blockchain landscape, particularly with regard to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/what-is-defi\/\" target=\"_blank\">decentralized finance<\/a> (DeFi), through combining Bitcoin and Ethereum due in part to the deep stores of value held in bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a>), which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/BTC.D\/\" target=\"_blank\">comfortably exceed those of every other digital asset combined<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Bitcoin&#8217;s coding lacks the ability to natively build some of the functions that DeFi requires, such as smart contracts or zero-knowledge proofs, hence the need to bridge this utility from Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>The company has signed up dozens of protocols for deployment on Hemi, including decentralized exchange (DEX) Sushi, liquid staking token pumpBTC and oracles RedStone and Pyth.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EMB: March 12, 16:00 UTC Modular blockchain Hemi Labs&#8217; unveiled its mainnet with $440 million in total value locked (TVL).
