The \u2018Crypto Cowboy\u2019 Era Is Over<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re coming out of the cowboy era of cryptocurrency.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Leary\u2019s commentary about Bitcoin in 2025 and beyond covered the good, the bad, and the ugly\u2014\u00a0starting with the ugly.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re coming out of the cowboy era of cryptocurrency,\u201d the Shark Tank investor said. \u201cNow all the crypto cowboys are in jail or out of business.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He\u2019s referring to a gaggle of crypto entrepreneurs who ran afoul of the law and got prosecuted by the US government.<\/p>\n<h3>Alex Mashinsky, Celsius<\/h3>\n<p>That includes, for example, Alex Mashinsky, the co-founder and former CEO of Celsius Network.\u00a0He admitted guilt to defrauding investors with assurances of regulatory approvals he did not have and claimed that he was not selling his CEL tokens when he was.<\/p>\n<p>Mashinsky <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/heres-alex-mashinskys-maximum-prison-sentence-after-pleading-guilty-to-fraud-charges\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">could spend<\/a> 30 years in prison for these convictions.<\/p>\n<h3>Sam Bankman-Fried, FTX<\/h3>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and former CEO of the FTX exchange and its FTT tokens, is serving a 25-year sentence for several counts of fraud.<\/p>\n<p>His parents <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/will-trump-pardon-sam-bankman-fried-parents-make-a-direct-appeal-report\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">are exploring<\/a> how to petition President Donald Trump for a pardon or commutation of Bankman-Fried\u2019s sentence.\u00a0SBF, as he is known online, is still breaking the rules in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The administrators reportedly threw him into solitary confinement in March after <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/sbfs-crisis-manager-resigns-after-surprise-jailhouse-interview\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">sneaking <\/a>a surprise, unapproved interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.<\/p>\n<h3>Changpeng Zhao, Binance<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to these two convicted fraudsters, Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao finished serving a four-month jail stint in September last year after settling with the DOJ on charges of violating anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal this March <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/cz-denies-trump-binance-deal-allegations-calls-wsj-report-misleading\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">alleged <\/a>that Trump may pardon Zhao for his past compliance flubs, which would allow the software engineer and crypto exchange founder to take a leadership role again at Binance.<\/p>\n<p>With the US government established over cryptocurrency, O\u2019Leary predicts that the crypto-friendly administration with Donald Trump at the helm will help make the industry an official new sector of the economy.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Crypto Is The Economy\u2019s New \u201812th Sector\u2019<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe have 11 sectors. I believe crypto will be the 12th. There\u2019s a new tone that Trump is putting forward,\u201d O\u2019Leary said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re going to provide regulations.\u201d As a result, \u201cIt\u2019s going to become a part of all of the sectors of our economy. We have 11 sectors,\u201d O\u2019Leary added. \u201cI believe crypto will be the 12th.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The 11 market sectors <a href=\"https:\/\/money.usnews.com\/investing\/articles\/stock-market-sectors-101-a-guide-to-all-11-sectors\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">are from<\/a> the Global Industry Classification Standard by Morgan Stanley and Standard &amp; Poor\u2019s. At this time, the sectors are:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>IT, Financials, Health care, Consumer staples, Consumer extras, Communications, Industrials, Energy, Utilities, Materials, and Real Estate<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Generally, many business people, software developers, investment analysts, and commentators say crypto <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/bitcoin-cryptocurrency-guides-101\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">has the<\/a> potential to disrupt and revolutionize all these segments directly and indirectly.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Trump Bitcoin Policies Are Hastening Adoption<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis will be the first administration that\u2019s going to say this sector belongs in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Leary hailed the second Trump term\u2019s possibilities for hastening the adoption and development of the blockchain industry.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis will be the first administration that\u2019s going to say this sector belongs in America,\u201d the Shark Tank investor told Lara Trump in the New York City tech pub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development should be here. The technology should be mastered here. We should lead the world in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ABC television shark has been talking for about adoption for years. He has long anticipated the mainstreaming of Bitcoin technology and cryptocurrency platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2021, O\u2019Leary <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/kevin-oleary-explains-why-institutions-arent-in-crypto-yet-exclusive\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">told <em>CryptoPotato<\/em><\/a> institutional investors wanted to play with the blockchain, but were waiting on the regulatory environment to update.<\/p>\n<p>With the Trump government stepping in broadly, however, to embrace Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, meanwhile resolving a series of high-profile SEC, DOJ, and CFTC cases against dozens of counterparties in the crypto industry\u2014 the US got that update O\u2019Leary was waiting on four years ago.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Holding Bitcoin Yourself Is Risky For Newbies<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTo make it safe, go to an accredited exchange like Coinbase.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To help avoid losses as a result of stolen passwords, forgotten passwords, lost wallets, and other Web3 hazards, O\u2019Leary recommends sticking with a regulated crypto exchange.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf you try and do this on your own in a decentralized wallet,\u201d the investor warned, \u201cSomeone will hack you, most likely because you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make it safe, go to an accredited exchange like Coinbase,\u201d he suggested. \u201cSomething that is regulated but also that you can see every day on your phone that has millions of accounts, so it has a real structure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Intermediate and advanced crypto investors who custory some of their own coins for various reasons take extra steps to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/9-must-tips-securing-crypto-wallet\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">secure their<\/a> crypto wallets and computer networks.<\/p>\n<h2>5. \u2018Start Small\u2019 And Learn Before Making Big Moves<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b; font-size: 16px;\">Finally, O\u2019Leary warned Fox News viewers of the investing class to start small when new to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead of putting all of your assets or portfolio into Web3 assets, the ABC Network investor extraordinaire suggested starting small, buying a third of a Bitcoin, and giving it time to weather crypto markets\u2019 volatile churn through the financial cycle.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe great thing about digital is that you can put it on your phone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart small,\u201d O\u2019Leary said. \u201cBuy a third of a Bitcoin. Treat it as an investment long term. It\u2019s a new asset form. Think about it as digital gold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the way I look at it,\u201d he added. \u201cThe great thing about digital is that you can put it on your phone. You can actually see it every day.
