Sam Liccardo, recently introduced the \u2018MEME Act\u2019, aimed at preventing federal officials and their families from profiting from meme coins.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has stated that meme coins are not securities and thus do not fall under its oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Even with the Democrats attempting to spread FUD on meme coins and specifically Donald Trump\u2019s official token, it has been one of the best performing cryptocurrencies in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Just in the past day alone, $TRUMP is up nearly 8% on the back of the US President\u2019s post on Truth Social calling $TRUMP \u201cthe greatest of them all\u201d and \u201ccool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Per CoinGecko, the $TRUMP chart shows that in the minutes after the President made the post, his meme coins spiked from around $10.98 to approximately $12.25, a near 12% rise.<\/p>\n<p>While it was followed by a brief sell-off, the $TRUMP token stabalized and is still up around 8%, trading at $11.82. According to <a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/highlights\/trending-crypto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CoinGecko<\/a>, $TRUMP is a \u2018Top Trending\u2019 token, alongside Sonic ($S) and Nillion ($NIL).<\/p>\n<p>Per the CoinGecko meme coin category, it is the top trending meme coin and the fourth largest meme coin by market cap.
