{"id":19058,"date":"2025-03-25T20:19:41","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T20:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=19058"},"modified":"2025-03-25T20:19:41","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T20:19:41","slug":"ripple-to-get-75m-of-court-ordered-fine-back-from-sec-drops-cross-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=19058","title":{"rendered":"Ripple to Get $75M of Court-Ordered Fine Back From SEC, Drops Cross-Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The long-running legal battle between Ripple Labs and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seems to finally be near an end, with Ripple emerging victorious.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The SEC will return the lion\u2019s share of the $125 million-court ordered fine paid by Ripple last year, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/s_alderoty\/status\/1904587116488917053?s=46&amp;t=8NRtgRDdqD7hUivi1jQV8Q\" target=\"_blank\">Tuesday X post<\/a> from Ripple\u2019s chief legal officer Stuart Alderoty, keeping just $50 million and returning the $75 million balance to Ripple.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The proposed settlement, which is subject to commissioner and court approval, comes just a week after the SEC agreed to drop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2024\/10\/02\/sec-files-notice-of-appeal-in-case-against-ripple\" target=\"_blank\">its appeal<\/a> of U.S. District Court judge Analisa Torres\u2019 2023 ruling that Ripple\u2019s programmatic sales of XRP to retail exchanges did not violate federal securities laws. Torres found that only Ripple\u2019s institutional sales violated securities laws, ordering Ripple to pay the $125 million fine. Though hefty, the fine was a mere fraction of the nearly $2 billion in civil penalties, disgorgement and prejudgement interest the SEC initially requested.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>As part of the pending settlement agreement, Ripple has agreed to drop its cross-appeal of the SEC\u2019s appeal. Alderoty also said that the SEC will ask the court to lift the standard injunction imposed against Ripple.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/xrp\" target=\"_blank\">XRP<\/a> jumped 1.5% higher in the minutes following the news before paring some of the gains, changing hands at around $2.47 recently.
