Source: TradingView<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The middle of the graph above demonstrates a big but brief shot up to $2.6 on March 19 when Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/breaking-ripple-news-sec-will-drop-appeal-xrp-price-reacts\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">announced<\/a> the end of the lawsuit between his company and the US SEC. This was the moment the XRP army waited for over four years.<\/p>\n<p>However, it turned out to be a classic \u2018sell-the-news\u2019 event as the asset\u2019s price nosedived shortly after and has failed to recapture the momentum. Even last week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/is-the-ripple-vs-sec-lawsuit-indeed-over-after-this-development\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">confirmation<\/a> of the lawsuit closure failed to impact XRP positively.<\/p>\n<p>Just the opposite; the third-largest cryptocurrency has plunged below $2.1. It has lost roughly 20% of its value since the March 19 peak and is close to breaking below $2, which could spell further trouble even though <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/ripple-is-winning-big-so-wheres-the-xrp-price-moonshot\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">everything seems to be going in Ripple\u2019s way<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The market-wide correction, which has pushed BTC to $82,000, ETH to $1,800, and SOL to $125, could be blamed for XRP\u2019s decline. However, Ripple\u2019s cross-border token has taken this retracement the worst from the top 20 alts, having lost 14.5% on a weekly scale, while BTC is down by 5.5%, SOL by 9%, and ETH by 11.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the aforementioned<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/unpopular-opinion-is-it-actually-time-to-short-ripple-xrp\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"> \u2018sell-the-news\u2019 moment<\/a>, another possible reason behind XRP\u2019s particularly painful decline could be linked to the recent activities of whales.<\/p>\n<p>These large market participants went on an accumulation spree after the US elections and during XRP\u2019s surge from $0.6 to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/ripple-missed-new-ath-by-just-1-can-xrp-break-through-today\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">$3.4<\/a>, which happened within months.
