{"id":19887,"date":"2025-03-31T14:47:44","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T14:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=19887"},"modified":"2025-03-31T14:47:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T14:47:44","slug":"brazil-bars-major-pension-funds-from-investing-in-cryptocurrencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=19887","title":{"rendered":"Brazil Bars Major Pension Funds From Investing in Cryptocurrencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Brazil\u2019s top financial policy body banned some pension funds from investing in cryptocurrencies because they are too risky.<\/p>\n<p>The National Monetary Council (CMN) forbade closed pension entities known as Entidades Fechadas de Previd\u00eancia Complementar (EFPCs) from allocating any portion of their guarantee reserves into bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a>) or other digital currencies. <\/p>\n<p>The EFPCs manage retirement savings for tens of thousands of unionized and company-employed workers and their reserves are typically made up of bonds and equities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe resolution also prohibits investments in virtual assets, considering their specific investment characteristics and associated risk,\u201d a Ministry of Finance <a href=\"https:\/\/static.poder360.com.br\/2025\/03\/voto-cmn-ministerio-fazenda.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">notice<\/a> circulating among<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poder360.com.br\/poder-economia\/previdencia-complementar-nao-podera-investir-em-criptomoedas\/?\" target=\"_blank\"> local news outlets <\/a>reads.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling was published last week under under<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcb.gov.br\/estabilidadefinanceira\/exibenormativo?tipo=Resolu%C3%A7%C3%A3o%20CMN&amp;numero=5202\" target=\"_blank\"> Resolution 5.202\/2025 <\/a>by the National Monetary Council (CMN).<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, last year British pension specialist Cartwright guided the country\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2024\/11\/04\/first-uk-pension-fund-invests-in-bitcoin\" target=\"_blank\">pension fund to make a bitcoin allocation<\/a> worth 3% of its assets. Several U.S. states have begun experimenting with crypto allocations for their pension systems, despite federal-level caution. Wisconsin\u2019s state investment board, for example, revealed in February it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/02\/14\/state-of-wisconsin-more-than-doubles-blackrock-bitcoin-etf-stake-to-usd322m\" target=\"_blank\">invested $340 million in bitcoin through BlackRock\u2019s ETF<\/a> (IBIT).<\/p>\n<p>The ruling does not appear to apply to open pension funds or individual retirement products sold by banks and insurers.
