{"id":22064,"date":"2025-04-14T20:01:47","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T20:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=22064"},"modified":"2025-04-14T20:01:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T20:01:47","slug":"sec-delays-decisions-on-in-kind-redemptions-ether-etf-staking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=22064","title":{"rendered":"SEC Delays Decisions on In-Kind Redemptions, Ether ETF Staking"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is not yet ready to make a decision on two critical features that issuers of the spot crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are hoping to add to their products.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The regulator delayed a decision on whether it will allow in-kind redemptions for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboebzx\/2025\/34-102857.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">WisdomTree\u2019s Bitcoin Fund<\/a> (BTCW) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboebzx\/2025\/34-102856.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">VanEck&#8217;s Bitcoin Fund<\/a> (BITB) and Ethereum Fund (ETHW) on Monday. It also moved its deadline for a decision in regards to a proposal by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/nysearca\/2025\/34-102855.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Grayscale<\/a> to allow staking its Ethereum Trust (ETHE) and Mini Ethereum Trust (ETH), which the asset manager\u2019s exchange, NYSE Arca had requested in February.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Cboe, the exchange that is associated with five of the other issuers of an ether ETF, including Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, VanEck and Invesco\/Galaxy, submitted its amended filing in March for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.cboe.com\/resources\/regulation\/rule_filings\/pending\/2025\/SR-CboeBZX-2025-038.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Fidelity Ethereum Fund<\/a> (FETH) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.cboe.com\/resources\/regulation\/rule_filings\/pending\/2025\/SR-CboeBZX-2025-036.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Franklin Ethereum ETF<\/a> (EZET).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The SEC has not previously allowed staking in spot ether ETFs. But with the appointment of new SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who was confirmed by the Senate last week, things could change quickly.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Several other jurisdictions, including Hong Kong, Canada and Europe, have already green-lighted staking for ETFs, but that doesn\u2019t put much pressure on the SEC, said one expert.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SEC will take their time and move as fast or as slow as they want,\u201d said James Seyffart, ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. \u201cThey don\u2019t care what other regulators are doing in my experience, they might learn from them but I don\u2019t think a regulator approving something is going to make the SEC jump through hoops and catch up.
