The U.S. government is evaluating innovative strategies to build up its national Bitcoin reserves without relying on taxpayer funding<\/span>, according to Bo Hines, executive director of the Trump <\/span>administration\u2019s<\/span> Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a <\/span>recent interview with Anthony Pompliano<\/span><\/a>, CEO of Professional Capital Management, Hines said the administration is exploring several<\/span> \u201c<\/span>creative<\/span>\u201d <\/span>approaches, including <\/span>the use of<\/span> tariff revenue and <\/span>the revaluation of<\/span> existing gold certificates.<\/span><\/p>\n

These methods, he noted, could provide a budget-neutral way to acquire Bitcoin.<\/span><\/p>\n

US Considers Revaluing Gold Certificates to Fund Bitcoin Reserves<\/span><\/h2>\n

One of the more unconventional ideas involves updating the value of the U.S. <\/span>Treasury\u2019s<\/span> gold certificates, which <\/span>are currently recorded<\/span> at $43 per ounce. <\/span><\/p>\n

If revalued to the current market price of around $3,200 per ounce, the paper surplus generated could be allocated toward Bitcoin purchases\u2014without the need to sell any gold.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Everything is on the table,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>Hines said,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>and we want as much Bitcoin as we can get<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposed Bitcoin Reserve will initially be seeded with assets forfeited through federal criminal cases, while future acquisitions may rely on alternative, non-taxpayer funding models. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hines emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader push to position the United States as a leader in the digital asset space.<\/span><\/p>\n

The administration is also finalizing a national framework for digital assets. According to Hines, the policy roadmap\u2014expected by late July or August\u2014will <\/span>provide guidance<\/span> on key issues such as tokenization, staking, and the promotion of U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>W<\/span>e\u2019re<\/span> moving at tech speed\u2014<\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> like <\/span>we\u2019re<\/span> a startup in this building,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interview Sidesteps Questions on <\/span>Trump\u2019s<\/span> Crypto Industry Ties<\/span><\/h2>\n

However, the interview avoided addressing potential conflicts of interest <\/span>tied to<\/span> former President <\/span>Trump\u2019s<\/span> presence in the crypto industry. <\/span><\/p>\n

These include the <\/span>controversial TRUMP meme coin<\/span><\/a>, which some lawmakers claim has already generated over $100 million in trading fees for Trump-linked entities, and the Trump <\/span>family\u2019s<\/span> reported involvement with World Liberty Financial.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, House Democrats criticized the meme coin, with Representative Gerald E. Connolly calling it a<\/span> \u201c<\/span>money grab<\/span>\u201d <\/span>and Representative Maxine Waters describing it as emblematic of the<\/span> \u201c<\/span>worst of crypto.<\/span>\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n
