The reward\u2014one full unit of the apex cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Happened<\/strong>: Titled the Q-Day Prize, the competition\u00a0targets the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/money\/what-is-cryptography\">Elliptic Curve Cryptography algorithm<\/a>, which secures Bitcoin transactions with public and private keys. The first team to break the \u201clargest ECC key possible\u201d using a quantum computer before April 5, 2026, will\u00a0receive 1 BTC, currently trading at $84,600.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative attempted to test quantum capabilities in real time and determine how \u201curgent\u201d the threat was, Project Eleven said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuantum computing is advancing fast, and the impact on cryptography is inevitable.
