Powell <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/bitcoin-price-erases-daily-gains-as-fed-chair-powell-highlights-tariff-risks\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">warned<\/a> that Trump\u2019s newly imposed tariffs, particularly those on China, could lead to a dangerous economic mix of rising prices and slowing growth, or \u201cstagflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The central bank usually cuts interest rates to stimulate a flagging economy and job market. It increases rates, or keeps them higher for longer, in an attempt to lower inflation.<\/p>\n<p>However, it does not appear to be having the desired effect as aggregate US inflation, derived from the Consumer Price Index, is at 2.4%, which is above the Fed\u2019s target of 2%. Some items, such as food, have even higher inflation rates, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/cpi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according<\/a> to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.<\/p>\n<p>According to prediction markets, the probability of Powell actually being fired this year is still low.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Eliminate the noise and look at what the market is saying:<\/p>\n<p>Despite all of the \u201cfire Powell\u201d headlines, prediction markets have been steady.<\/p>\n<p>There is a mere 25% chance that Jerome Powell is out as Fed Chair in 2025, per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kalshi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">@Kalshi<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2NbWriiWxZ\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/2NbWriiWxZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Kobeissi Letter (@KobeissiLetter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KobeissiLetter\/status\/1912946389606166642?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">April 17, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Impact on Crypto Markets<\/h2>\n<p>Trump also hinted that the US and China would \u201cmake a very good deal\u201d soon, though Beijing hadn\u2019t publicly committed to formal negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Trump claims that Chinese officials have shown interest in negotiations, and he appears to be using this narrative to reassure markets further, <a href=\"https:\/\/insights.santiment.net\/read\/trump-s-latest-target-jerome-powell-8624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">reported<\/a> Santiment. However, sentiment could change at the whim of what the POTUS decides to say next.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe retail crowd\u2019s sentiment toward crypto still very much matters, but many would admit that their bullish or bearish narratives could be thrown out the window at any time with a quick pivot by Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">As crypto traders wait for a reason to confidently FOMO in on prices, Trump has taken aim at Jerome Powell for not cutting rates.
