Most recently, the company\u2019s cross-border token was <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EleanorTerrett\/status\/1914512340604576059?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1914512340604576059%7Ctwgr%5Ef8c0802d6d8db5c8c5cdacd0071257869e4e14dc%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcoinpedia.org%2Fnews%2Foregon-sues-coinbase-labels-31-crypto-tokens-as-securities-including-xrp-ada-link%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">included<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in a lawsuit that the Oregon Attorney General (AG) filed against the US-based crypto exchange Coinbase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">chief legal officer of the state claims<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> XRP, SOL, ADA, LINK, UNI, and many more were offered and sold as investment contracts on the platform.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The lawsuit refers to them as \u201ccrypto securities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The attack from the Oregon AG raised some eyebrows across the community. Bill Morgan \u2013 the prominent legal commentator known for his in-depth analysis of Ripple\u2019s legal battles \u2013 was among those <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Belisarius2020\/status\/1914524029337395676?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1914524029337395676%7Ctwgr%5Ebcf907035c9bb6e7365887738587a9256450d929%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcoinpedia.org%2Fnews%2Fxrp-among-31-tokens-targeted-in-oregon-ags-latest-lawsuit%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">criticizing<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the action. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the chief legal officer of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the state of Oregon <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ignored the fact<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that Coinbase delisted XRP from its platform in December 2020 after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Ripple.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The exchange <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/coinbase-announces-the-relisting-of-ripple-xrp-following-court-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">re-enabled<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> trading with the asset in the summer of 2023 following a court ruling that the secondary sale of XRP didn\u2019t constitute an offer of investment contracts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cNo one could have the imagination to make up this dystopian nonsense,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It is important to note that Coinbase faced similar problems from the SEC in the past. Nearly two years ago, the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/us-sec-files-a-lawsuit-against-coinbase-day-after-suing-binance\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">filed<\/a> a 101-page lawsuit against the exchange, accusing it of violating securities laws by making certain cryptocurrencies that supposedly passed the Howey Test available for trade on its platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> large-cap altcoins labeled as securities in the case included SOL, ADA, and MATIC, while <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">XRP was not mentioned<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The SEC drastically changed its hostile approach toward the crypto industry <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in the past several months<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, ending its legal disputes with numerous digital asset entities.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The case against <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/coinbase-ceo-boasts-about-sec-lawsuit-dismissal-is-ripple-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Coinbase<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> is among the dismissed ones, but perhaps the most popular one (against Ripple) is still awaiting its official resolution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Latest Updates on the Ripple v. SEC Front<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last month, Ripple\u2019s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/breaking-ripple-news-sec-will-drop-appeal-xrp-price-reacts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">announced<\/a> a major win, revealing that the SEC would withdraw its latest appeal, signaling the effective conclusion of the lawsuit.\u00a0The company\u2019s chief legal officer \u2013 Stuart Alderoty \u2013 later confirmed this development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Ripple community <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">was quick to celebrate<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> this as the end of the case that had been dragging on for over four years. However, the battle needs to undergo additional legal proceedings before becoming part of history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Earlier this month, Ripple and the SEC <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/settlement-in-sight-ripple-and-sec-file-joint-motion-to-stay-the-appeal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">filed<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a joint motion to request a pause on their <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">individual<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> appeals. Shortly after, the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/official-update-in-the-ripple-vs-sec-lawsuit-is-settlement-next\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">acknowledged<\/a> and granted the submission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Although this brings the case closer to a formal resolution, the securities regulator has yet to make an official statement.
