{"id":23366,"date":"2025-04-23T12:31:57","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T12:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=23366"},"modified":"2025-04-23T12:31:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T12:31:57","slug":"paypal-to-pay-3-7-annual-yield-on-stablecoin-pyusd-to-encourage-broader-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=23366","title":{"rendered":"PayPal to Pay 3.7% Annual Yield on Stablecoin PYUSD to Encourage Broader Use"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>PayPal is upping the ante in the stablecoin wars as it\u2019s set to begin offering U.S. users 3.7% annual returns on balances of its PayPal USD (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/paypal-usd\">PYUSD<\/a>) stablecoin.<\/p>\n<p>The yield, accrued daily and paid monthly in PYUSD, is designed to spur adoption by making the token more appealing and stand out among the competition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-23\/paypal-aims-to-boost-stablecoin-use-by-offering-3-7-on-balances?sref=3REHEaVI\">Bloomberg report<\/a>ed.<\/p>\n<p>Set to launch this summer, the program will allow users to earn rewards while keeping their stablecoins in PayPal and Venmo wallets. The stablecoin can be spent via PayPal Checkout, transferred to other users, or converted to traditional dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are halfway in a 10-year journey,\u201d said Jose Fernandez da Ponte, PayPal\u2019s head of blockchain and digital currencies. The aim, he added, is to build a new set of payment rails that reduce costs and improve speed. CEO Alex Chriss echoed the point, saying stablecoins offer a chance to reshape the economics of the payment landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2023, PYUSD is issued by Paxos Trust and backed by reserves like U.S. Treasuries. Despite PayPal\u2019s brand recognition, PYUSD\u2019s market share remains small \u2014 about $868 million \u2014 compared to market leader Tether\u2019s $143 billion USDT, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/rwa.xyz\/\">RWA.xyz<\/a> data.<\/p>\n<p>The move is also part of PayPal\u2019s ongoing cryptocurrency push.
