The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has entered what its new co-executive directors call \u201ca moment of transition and opportunity,\u201d unveiling a comprehensive management shake-up and refreshed strategic vision through three coordinated blog posts published on Monday, 28 April.<\/p>\n

Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz K. Sta\u0144czak, who have jointly steered EF for \u201calmost a month,\u201d announced<\/a> that the \u201choneymoon is over\u2014it\u2019s time to get moving,\u201d signaling the end of an unusually quiet hand-over period and the start of an assertive push to redefine the Swiss-based foundation\u2019s internal governance and external priorities.<\/p>\n

Ethereum\u2019s first experiment with co-executive leadership is framed as a deliberate antidote to single-point fragility. \u201cEF is not a two-headed carriage pulling in different directions,\u201d Wang and Sta\u0144czak wrote. \u201cOur relationship is built on mutual respect, trust, and shared values. We collaborate closely, challenge each other constructively, and ultimately move forward as a united team with shared goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Era For Ethereum Foundation<\/h2>\n

Those goals converge on three technical fronts for the next 12 months: scaling the Layer 1 mainnet, scaling data-availability \u201cblobs,\u201d and smoothing user experience across Layer 2s<\/a> and the application layer. Sta\u0144czak pledged \u201cspeed of execution, accountability, clear goals, objectives, and metrics to track,\u201d adding that Ethereum mainnet will remain \u201ca global, neutral network, a protocol trusted to be trustless.\u201d<\/p>\n

The structural revamp extends beyond management. A separate post by the EF board describes the board as \u201clike a security council to protect the heart and soul of EF,\u201d responsible for vision-level oversight and Swiss regulatory compliance. Vitalik Buterin retains a board seat<\/a>\u00a0and \u201ccontinues to provide technical and intellectual guidance,\u201d while EF president Aya Miyaguchi, Swiss counsel Patrick Storchenegger, and Wang herself round out the current four-member body.<\/p>\n

Notably, Sta\u0144czak\u2019s operational mandate is time-boxed: he has agreed to a two-year term in order to \u201cleverage his proven strategic-execution expertise and experience\u201d at what the board calls \u201ca busy time for the Ethereum ecosystem.\u201d Wang\u2019s simultaneous roles on both board and management are intended to \u201cserve as a bridge between the board, executives, and management.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a third post titled The Ethereum Foundation\u2019s Vision, Miyaguchi and Buterin re-cast EF as steward of an \u201cInfinite Garden\u201d whose purpose is to \u201cremain resilient amid changing environments.\u201d They described the foundation\u2019s philosophy of \u201cpurposeful subtraction,\u201d summarizing it in a concise refrain: \u201cWe do what no one else can do today. We help others do tomorrow what only we can do today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Top Priorities For 2025<\/h2>\n

The document commits EF to maximizing meaningful Ethereum usage\u2014whether through internet-native finance, decentralized social media, or on-chain AI coordination\u2014while simultaneously maximizing the \u201cresilience of Ethereum\u2019s technical and social infrastructure.\u201d That resilience is defined by ecosystem autonomy, diversity of development teams, and an uncompromising adherence to core values: censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security.<\/p>\n

Wang\u2019s immediate priority is \u201cstrengthening the EF\u2019s operations to support the ecosystem\u2019s growth,\u201d with particular emphasis on the application layer. She promises to \u201cimprove developer and user experience, clarify standards, strengthen ecosystems, and smooth the journey from ideas to live applications.\u201d Sta\u0144czak, still involved with Nethermind and venture affiliations, will concentrate on protocol-level scalability<\/a> and Layer 2 architecture.<\/p>\n

Both directors underscore the importance of community visibility. Expect Devcon and other flagship gatherings to give \u201capplications and L2s more presence and attention,\u201d and for EF\u2019s communication cadence to accelerate. \u201cWe will be willing to enter difficult dialogues without delay,\u201d Sta\u0144czak noted.<\/p>\n

All three posts converge on a single imperative: 2025 must be the year Ethereum proves it can scale without compromising its ethos. The co-executive directors describe the coming months as \u201ca journey through one of the most inspiring technological and societal shifts we will ever experience,\u201d while Miyaguchi and Buterin remind readers that \u201cEthereum\u2019s greatest advantage is its unparalleled ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether the new dual-leadership model can translate that advantage into tangible progress on mainnet throughput, blobspace efficiency, and cross-rollup UX will be the first real test of EF\u2019s \u201cnext chapter.\u201d For now, the foundation\u2019s message is unambiguous: the guard has changed, but \u201cthe values remain unchanged.\u201d<\/p>\n
