As the Bitcoin mining industry matures and faces both new opportunities and challenges, some companies are doubling down on international growth, sustainability, and strategic positioning. Hive Blockchain is one of them.<\/p>\n

CryptoPotato caught up with Aydin Kilic, CEO of Hive Blockchain at Paris Blockchain Week 2025, to talk about the company\u2019s bold expansion plans, how U.S. political shifts under Trump might reshape mining, and why Paraguay \u2014 not Texas \u2014 is where the company is putting its biggest bets.<\/p>\n

International Mining Effort and Trump\u2019s Impact on the Market<\/h3>\n

Hive has historically been known as a Canadian player. But as Kilic pointed out, the corporate center of gravity is shifting.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe recently announced that our HQ is moving from Vancouver to San Antonio, but we still have the office in Vancouver,\u201d Kilic shared. \u201cWe\u2019ve been listed on NASDAQ since 2021, and being domiciled in the U.S. helps us qualify for U.S. indexes. That\u2019s important for exposure and investor positioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yet despite the headline move, Kilic emphasized that their mining operations remain international. He said they\u2019re not mining in the US, which spares them from the tariffs because they are not importing ASICs into the US.<\/p>\n

When asked about the political landscape, especially under Trump, Kilic didn\u2019t hesitate to connect the dots between policy and mining outcomes.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBitcoin shot up to all-time highs after Trump\u2019s win \u2014 we saw $108,000 Bitcoin, which was phenomenal,\u201d Kilic recalled. \u201cThere was a lot of excitement in the industry that his administration would bring in pro-Bitcoin, pro-mining policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

One symbolic moment stood out to him: Trump\u2019s appearance at the Nashville Bitcoin conference. \u201cIt\u2019s the first time ever that a presidential candidate, and now a president, has spoken at the Bitcoin conference,\u201d Kilic said. \u201cThat signaled big things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kilic introduced the concept of the American electro-dollar, a new framing for the U.S. dollar\u2019s evolution.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe U.S. dollar used to be backed by gold, then it became the petrodollar, backed by oil,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut now, with Bitcoin emerging and America as a hub for mining \u2014 backed by energy \u2014 you have the American electro-dollar. I like it. I think it\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Paraguay: Hive\u2019s New Mining Powerhouse<\/h3>\n

While the U.S. draws attention, Hive\u2019s real operational excitement is centered in South America.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe expanded into Paraguay \u2014 300 megawatts. Very exciting,\u201d Kilic said with enthusiasm. \u201cWe just energized last week. We have about 1,000 machines running at 100 petahash, and we\u2019re installing thousands more every week.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

By October, Hive expects to reach about 25 Exahash, representing roughly 3% of the global Bitcoin network.<\/p>\n

What makes Paraguay so attractive? Kilic points to its renewable energy capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Itaipu Dam is a 10.4 gigawatt hydro dam, and it feeds our site,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe have two sites: one at 100 megawatts, one at 200 megawatts, for a total of 300 megawatts of hydro energy. It\u2019s remarkable.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Hive\u2019s local involvement isn\u2019t just industrial. Kilic highlighted the company\u2019s efforts to give back. He outlined that in the province of Cordillera, where their 100 megawatt site is located, there are 18 schools that need electricity. They\u2019ve so far completed four of these and will be rolling more throughout 2025 and the following years \u2013 an initiative he describes as part of their sustainable model.<\/p>\n

Cracking the ASIC Hardware Challenge<\/h2>\n

One of Hive\u2019s more innovative moves has been its collaboration with Intel to produce custom ASIC miners, the BuzzMiners.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe built 10,000 BuzzMiners \u2014 a hedge so we weren\u2019t completely reliant on the big three: Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan,\u201d Kilic explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Drawing on his background as an electrical engineer, Kilic approached the project with technical precision.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sent our own quality assurance lead to live in the factory town for two months,\u201d he shared. \u201cPeople don\u2019t realize \u2014 it\u2019s not just about the chip. You need system integration: ASIC on a PCB, power supply, control circuitry, thermodynamics. Easier said than done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Intel eventually exiting the mining chip market, Hive made the project profitable.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve ROI\u2019d on two of the three batches, and the machines are still mining today,\u201d Kilic said. \u201cWe\u2019re sending them to Paraguay now to mine through their full lifecycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What\u2019s Next: A Transformative Year Ahead<\/h3>\n

Looking at the road ahead, Kilic is bullish on Hive\u2019s near-term trajectory. He said they are aiming for 25 Exahash, which represents four times (4x) growth, which, according to him, will push the company north of $1 billion market cap by scale.<\/p>\n

He also expects the broader market to heat up once political and economic volatility settles.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cAll the smart industry guys are hoping for an $80 to $120 hash price. We\u2019re at about $40 now,\u201d Kilic said. \u201cHistorically, after a halving event, the bull market drives hash price two to three times higher. We\u2019re excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kilic plans to personally visit Paraguay multiple times over the coming months as new phases of their expansion go live.<\/p>\n

Even amid global shifts and ambitious targets, Kilic remains grounded.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019ll always remain bullish on the U.S. as a jurisdiction to do business,\u201d he said. \u201cBut for us right now, it\u2019s all about Paraguay. It\u2019s all about scale, renewable energy, and building for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
