The companies have signed up to work with the ECB to explore the central bank digital currency&#8217;s payment functionalities and use cases, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>The ECB issued a call to small and large merchants, banks and payment-service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/press\/intro\/news\/html\/ecb.mipnews241031.en.html\">providers last year<\/a>. The central bank&#8217;s President Christine Lagarde said that the testing phase of the CBDC, which it calls its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/03\/10\/ecb-targets-october-launch-for-digital-euro-but-lawmakers-raise-concerns\">preparation phase<\/a>, should end by October.
