On May 7, the much-anticipated Pectra upgrade finally went live on the mainnet, and developers are calling it one of the network’s most important updates since the Merge. It brings a ton of new features, more flexibility for wallets, better data handling, and big changes for staking. With the Ethereum Pectra upgrade, wallets can now act more like smart contracts, giving users new functionality. But like any major upgrade, it also comes with a few headaches. Some users are already worried about security.

What’s in the Pectra Package?

Let’s break it down. That means you can do things like sign multiple transactions at once, recover your wallet if you lose access, and even skip paying gas sometimes if a third party covers it.

EIP-7251 bumps up the validator staking cap from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. That’s a game-changer for big players like staking services and institutional validators. Fewer validators, lower hardware demands, and a more efficient network.

EIP-7691 helps scale things by expanding blobspace. That’s good news for layer 2 solutions like Arbitrum and Optimism, which rely on this for cheaper, faster transactions.

Cool Features, but Are They Safe?

That’s where things get complicated. While these upgrades are powerful, some come with warnings. For example, EIP-3074, which adds new instructions called AUTH and AUTHCALL, allows users to permit smart contracts to act on their behalf. Sounds handy, right? It is, until you accidentally sign a message from a malicious contract that drains your wallet in one click.

–

Price

Market Cap

–

–

–

                24h
7d
30d
1y
All Time

                Log

DISCOVER: 20+ Next Crypto to Explode in 2025

And with EIP-7702, there’s another catch. As one security blog put it, “You can now do smarter things with your wallet, but you can also make smarter mistakes.”

Ethereum Pectra Upgrade: How’s the Market Taking It?

Pretty calmly, actually. ETH has been hovering around $1,830 since the upgrade went live. That’s a slight bump, but nothing dramatic. Analysts say that’s normal. These upgrades are laying the groundwork for future growth, not hyping the price today.

In short, Ethereum’s not mooning, but it’s definitely maturing.

Looking Forward

Pectra is a big step forward for Ethereum. It gives users more control, developers more tools, and the network more efficiency. But with more options comes more complexity, and not everyone is ready for that.

The next few weeks will be all about learning how to use these new features without falling into traps. For now, ETH is steady, users are cautious, and Ethereum’s long-term vision just got a little clearer — and a little riskier.

DISCOVER: The 12+ Hottest Crypto Presales to Buy Right Now

Join The 99Bitcoins News Discord Here For The Latest Market Updates

Key Takeaways

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade went live on May 7, introducing major changes across both execution and consensus layers through 11 EIPs.

EIP-7702 enables account abstraction, allowing wallets to function more like smart contracts with features like batch transactions and gasless operations.

EIP-7251 raises the staking cap per validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, streamlining the network for institutional staking operations.

Security experts have flagged potential risks with new features like EIP-3074 and EIP-7702, warning users to be cautious with contract permissions.

ETH price remained stable around $1,830 after the upgrade, signaling market confidence but cautious adoption of the new capabilities.

The post Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade Goes Live with Big Changes and Bigger Risks appeared first on 99Bitcoins.

Ethereum just got a serious makeover.
