Goldman Sachs amplified its bet on Bitcoin ETFs by adding almost 6\u202fmillion additional shares in BlackRock\u2019s iShares<\/a> Bitcoin Trust. The bank\u2019s most recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission indicates it now owns nearly 31\u202fmillion shares\u2014up from 24\u202fmillion in its last report.<\/p>\n

That holding is valued at more than $1.4\u202fbillion. It makes Goldman the largest institutional IBIT holder to date, according to MacroScope, a financial analyst.<\/p>\n

Goldman Sachs Increases Bitcoin ETF Holdings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Goldman\u2019s 30.8\u202fmillion IBIT shares, as reported in the SEC filing<\/a>, are a 28% rise from its earlier 24\u202fmillion-share holding. At current market price, that portion of IBIT is worth over $1.4\u202fbillion.<\/p>\n

MacroScope initially highlighted the shift. For comparison, competitor hedge fund Brevan\u202fHoward owns slightly more than 25\u202fmillion shares\u2014worth close to $1.4\u202fbillion on its own.<\/p>\n

Goldman Transitions To BTC <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Last December, Goldman had call and put options on IBIT. At the time, it had around $157\u202fmillion in calls and more than $527\u202fmillion in puts. It also had $84\u202fmillion in puts on Fidelity\u2019s FBTC.<\/p>\n

Those hedges don\u2019t appear in the current report. Allowing them to expire indicates that Goldman might be transitioning to an easier, direct bet on Bitcoin\u2019s price.<\/a><\/p>\n

IBIT Leads ETFs With $63\u202fBillion<\/strong><\/p>\n

BlackRock\u2019s iShares Bitcoin Trust has grown to almost $63 billion in assets managed, Farside Investors data indicate. The fund has amassed around $44 billion in net flows since its inception. This week alone, it received $674 million more. Friday saw IBIT shares increase by $1.04 to close at $58.66, following the top coin\u2019s recovery above $60,000.<\/p>\n

Wall Street Firms Follow Suit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Goldman is not the only one. Other heavy-hitters\u2014Jane\u202fStreet, D.E.\u202fShaw and Symmetry Investments\u2014also maintain significant IBIT positions. And Goldman itself had reported $1.2\u202fbillion in IBIT and $288\u202fmillion in FBTC as of its filing in February.<\/p>\n

The transaction indicates that large trading desks and hedge funds are seeking Bitcoin within regulated ETFs, not futures or unregulated exchanges.<\/p>\n

Goldman Sachs\u2019s increasing ETF stake is an indicator of increasing bank confidence in Bitcoin as a part of mainstream portfolios. With more than $60\u202fbillion stashed in IBIT alone, it\u2019s apparent that spot Bitcoin ETFs have resonated with institutional investors.<\/p>\n

Whether other large banks follow and how that influences Bitcoin\u2019s price will be closely monitored in the coming months.<\/p>\n
