{"id":26681,"date":"2025-05-14T09:17:22","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T09:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/synthetix-considers-purchase-of-options-platform-derive-in-27m-token-swap-deal\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T09:17:22","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T09:17:22","slug":"synthetix-considers-purchase-of-options-platform-derive-in-27m-token-swap-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=26681","title":{"rendered":"Synthetix Considers Purchase of Options Platform Derive in $27M Token-Swap Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Ethereum-based derivatives powerhouse Synthetix is considering buying options trading platform Derive in an token-for-token deal valued at $27 million that would see the project absorbed back into the protocol that gave it birth.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, <a href=\"https:\/\/sips.synthetix.io\/sips\/sip-415\/?ref=blog.synthetix.io\">SIP-415<\/a> on Synthetix and <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.derive.xyz\/t\/dip-synthetix-acquires-derive\/277\">DIP<\/a> on Derive, needs to be approved by both communities and would see Derive\u2019s treasury, codebase and operational stack incorporated into Synthetix. <\/p>\n<p>The deal marks a rare instance of a token swap-based acquisition in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/what-is-defi\/\">decentralized finance<\/a> (DeFi), and is being pitched as part of Synthetix&#8217;s growing ecosystem. Derive (DRV) token holders would receive 27 newly issued SNX tokens for each DRV they own. The tokens are subject to a three-month lockup and nine-month linear vesting schedule. Synthetix would mint up to 29.3 million SNX, amounting to roughly 8.6% inflation of its current token supply.<\/p>\n<p>Derive, originally Lyra, went live in 2021 and was spun out from Synthetix. It has previously moved away from the protocol, ending support for Synthetix\u2019s sUSD stablecoin, switching to GMX for liquidity, and launching its own perpetual futures product.<\/p>\n<p>Early responses from the Derive community showed dissatisfaction with the idea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u00b4t see any benefit for Derive on it,\u201d one commenter said. \u201cIn the other hand (sic), it all looks great and advantageous for Synthetix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another user took aim at the proposed valuations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat exchange rate is a poor reflection of the value of derive as a platform,\u201d commenter \u2018Ramjo\u2019 said. \u201cAnd then have the nerve to put a long vesting period on it AS WELL.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DRV prices are down 20% in the past 24 hours, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/derive\">data on CoinGecko shows<\/a>, while SNX is up 7%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum-based derivatives powerhouse Synthetix is considering buying options trading platform Derive in an token-for-token deal valued at $27 million that would see the project absorbed back into the protocol that gave it birth.
