{"id":27646,"date":"2025-05-20T11:02:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T11:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=27646"},"modified":"2025-05-20T11:02:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T11:02:00","slug":"circle-has-explored-potential-5b-sale-to-coinbase-or-ripple-instead-of-ipo-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=27646","title":{"rendered":"Circle Has Explored Potential $5B Sale to Coinbase or Ripple Instead of IPO: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Stablecoin issuer Circle, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/04\/01\/stablecoin-giant-circle-files-for-ipo\">filed for an initial public offering<\/a> (IPO) last month, has explored the alternative of a sale to crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) or payments company Ripple, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/05\/19\/circle-internet-coinbase-ripple-goldman-sachs-ipos-cryptocurrency-mergers-sp-500\/\">according to a Monday report by Fortune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The New York-based issuer of USDC, the second-largest stablecoin, took part in informal talks over a potential sale from which it was seeking at least $5 billion, Fortune reported, citing people who asked not to be identified. <\/p>\n<p>This figure would be line with the company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/04\/01\/stablecoin-giant-circle-files-for-ipo\">valuation by investment banks JPMorgan and Citi<\/a>, which Circle had hired to help with the IPO. <\/p>\n<p>Coinbase holds a minority share in Circle, and the two companies share revenue from USDC&#8217;s reserve interest income. Ripple recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/04\/22\/ripple-s-rlusd-stablecoin-goes-live-on-aave-v3-ethereum-market\">debuted its own stablecoin<\/a>, RLUSD. An offer by Ripple to buy Circle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/04\/30\/ripple-offered-4b-5b-for-stablecoin-issuer-circle-bloomberg\">was rejected<\/a>, Bloomberg reported last month.<\/p>\n<p>Circle said in an emailed statement that it &#8220;is not for sale,&#8221; and remains committed to going public, Fortune said.
