Speaking from Input Output Global\u2019s new 100-seat office overlooking the R\u00edo de la Plata, the Cardano creator insisted<\/a> that the sector\u2019s deepest problems \u201care not matters of throughput or block size\u201d but of \u201ca culture that rewards gossip over truth and outrage over evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoskinson\u2019s monologue began with a travelogue\u2014Wyoming, Consensus 2025 in Toronto, and finally Argentina\u2014but quickly shifted into a frontal assault on what he called \u201ccesspool journalism.\u201d He accused outlets such as CoinMarketCap and Cointelegraph of circulating a $600 million ADA-theft allegation<\/a> \u201cwithout a victim, without a lawsuit, without a regulator, and without even asking us for comment.\u201d In a line that ricocheted across social media within minutes, he declared, \u201cCrypto media is absolutely unredeemable and it has to be burned to the ground.\u201d He proposed a market-based remedy: veracity bonds that would force publishers to stake meaningful sums against the accuracy of their reporting.<\/p>\n

The comments arrive amid real legal and reputational pressure. Earlier this week, IOG\u2019s chief legal and policy officer Joel Telpner confirmed<\/a> that audit giant BDO and the law firm McDermott Will & Emery will investigate claims that Input Output diverted unredeemed ADA during the network\u2019s 2021 \u201cAllegra\u201d hard fork\u2014a charge Hoskinson dismissed as \u201cfalse\u201d and \u201cdeeply offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Momentum, in his view, is also legislative. Hoskinson praised the US Senate\u2019s bipartisan advance of the GENIUS act<\/a>\u2014stablecoin legislation that cleared a 66\u201332 procedural vote on 20 May. He argued that a year ago Washington\u2019s mood was \u201cevery cryptocurrency is illegal,\u201d whereas today Congress is on the cusp of market-structure rules that could legitimize the entire sector.<\/p>\n

Yet the address was anything but triumphalist. Hoskinson lamented that social-media virality has reduced public discourse to \u201ca storm in a teacup,\u201d eroding the incentive to verify allegations before branding rivals as criminals. \u201cWhen I was growing up,\u201d he recalled, \u201cyou had to have some momentum before you accuse someone of being a criminal.\u201d Now, he said, accusations spread \u201clike breathing air,\u201d and when they prove unfounded \u201cthere\u2019s no consequences\u2014you just move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Personal fatigue permeated the address\u2014he spoke of torn tendons, hair loss, and sleepless travel\u2014but not resignation. Citing his own bullet-ant initiation ritual in the Amazon, Hoskinson framed suffering as a test of resilience and rallied listeners to \u201ckeep the faith despite all of this.\u201d The industry, he concluded, must outgrow \u201chyper-transactional late-stage capitalism\u201d and rediscover a moral project equal to its technological ambition. \u201cWe deserve it,\u201d he said, insisting that Cardano\u2019s best days \u201care not behind us; they are in front of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
