It is worth over $1.1 billion as of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Hanyecz has long shrugged off the missed fortune\u201d tag, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/the-story-behind-bitcoin-pizza-day-2019-05-22\/\">telling CBS in 2019<\/a> that the transaction made bitcoin \u201creal\u201d to him. He mined the coins back when BTC was under a penny, and few could have predicted the multi-trillion-dollar asset it would become.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the transaction remains a cultural milestone for the crypto market \u2014 a moment that showed internet money could work as actual currency. Now, it\u2019s not just pizza being paid for with bitcoin.
