{"id":28117,"date":"2025-05-22T14:32:59","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T14:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=28117"},"modified":"2025-05-22T14:32:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T14:32:59","slug":"texas-moves-closer-to-setting-up-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-as-bill-passes-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=28117","title":{"rendered":"Texas Moves Closer to Setting Up Strategic Bitcoin Reserve as Bill Passes House"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Texas is drawing closer to establishing a strategic bitcoin (BTC) reserve after a senate bill to create one was approved by the lower house.<\/p>\n<p>The state&#8217;s House of Representatives <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.senate.texas.gov\/sjrnl\/89r\/pdf\/89RSJ05-21-F.PDF#page=8\">voted in favor of Senate Bill 121<\/a> which would establish a &#8220;Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve for the purpose of investing in cryptocurrency and the investment authority of the comptroller of public accounts over the reserve and certain other state funds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which passed in a 101-42 vote, now awaits a concurrence vote from the Senate following House amendments before passing to Governor Greg Abbott&#8217;s desk for a final sign-off.<\/p>\n<p>Texas would become the second state to establish a strategic reserve for digital assets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/05\/06\/new-hampshire-becomes-first-state-to-approve-crypto-reserve-law\">after New Hampshire<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>An equivalent vote in Arizona got all the way to the governor but was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/05\/03\/arizona-governor-calls-crypto-an-untested-investment-vetoes-bitcoin-reserve-bill\">vetoed by Katie Hobbs<\/a>, calling bitcoin an &#8220;untested investment.&#8221; However she has <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinlaws.io\/az\">enacted a similar bill<\/a> which permits the state to hold abandoned digital assets as unclaimed property. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas is drawing closer to establishing a strategic bitcoin (BTC) reserve after a senate bill to create one was approved by the lower house.
