{"id":29336,"date":"2025-05-29T21:17:58","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T21:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=29336"},"modified":"2025-05-29T21:17:58","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T21:17:58","slug":"ships-could-pay-panama-canal-transit-fees-in-bitcoin-and-cut-the-line-panama-city-mayor-muses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=29336","title":{"rendered":"Ships Could Pay Panama Canal Transit Fees in Bitcoin and Cut the Line, Panama City Mayor Muses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>LAS VEGAS, Nevada \u2014\u00a0The Mayor of Panama City, Mayer Mizrachi, is taking notes on bitcoin from the leader of El Salvador.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas on Thursday, Mizrachi said he\u2019s been thinking of ways Panama\u2019s capital city, which is home to the Panama Canal, could implement bitcoin payments. <\/p>\n<p>This includes potentially setting up a strategic bitcoin reserve for Panama City, as well as possibly taking payments \u2014\u00a0including for passage through the Panama Canal \u2014 in bitcoin, Mizrachi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat if you have a perk for paying in bitcoin?\u201d Mizrachi mused. \u201cYou\u2019d get to go faster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under Mizrachi, Panama City passed a bill that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/04\/17\/panama-city-greenlights-bitcoin-ether-payments-for-tax-and-city-services\">allows<\/a> residents to pay for taxes, parking tickets, permits, and other fees with bitcoin BTC, ether ETH and some stablecoins.<\/p>\n<p>Four years ago, at Bitcoin 2021, Nayib Bukele, the leader of Panama\u2019s central American neighbor El Salvador, announced that his country would begin accepting bitcoin as legal tender.
