{"id":31049,"date":"2025-06-10T05:31:46","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T05:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=31049"},"modified":"2025-06-10T05:31:46","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T05:31:46","slug":"sec-chair-touts-american-defi-revolution-as-eth-prices-pump-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=31049","title":{"rendered":"SEC Chair Touts American DeFi Revolution as ETH Prices Pump 8%\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>\u201cThe American values of economic liberty, private property rights, and innovation are in the DNA of the DeFi movement,\u201d said SEC Chair Paul Atkins at the regulator\u2019s latest Crypto Task Force Roundtable on decentralized finance on June 9.<\/p>\n<p>Atkins criticized applying \u201ccentury-old regulatory frameworks\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/dappradar-defi-and-nft-upticks-in-may-could-mark-start-of-recovery\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">DeFi<\/a> and blockchain innovation, noting that current securities rules were designed for traditional intermediaries and issuers, not self-executing software systems.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe prior administration discouraged Americans from participating in blockchains by asserting through lawsuits, speeches, regulation, and threatened regulatory action that participants and staking-as-a-service providers may be engaged in securities transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Key points from Chairman Paul Atkins\u2019 remarks today at \u201cDeFi and the American Spirit,\u201d SEC\u2019s Crypto Task Force Roundtable on Decentralized Finance \u2013 a<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (@SECGov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SECGov\/status\/1932137708068970924?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">June 9, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Green Light for Ethereum DeFi<\/h2>\n<p>Atkins also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/sec-endorses-crypto-staking-as-non-security-activity-in-landmark-guidance\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">clarified<\/a> that voluntary participation in a proof-of-work or proof-of-stake network as a miner, validator, or staking-as-a-service provider \u201cis not within the scope of the federal securities laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was also in favor of \u201caffording greater flexibility\u201d to market participants to self-custody crypto assets, and said \u201cpublishing staking code or wallet software isn\u2019t brokerage activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moving forward, the SEC chair directed staff to explore guidance for registrants transacting with blockchain systems and consider rule amendments to accommodate on-chain financial systems.\u00a0He also proposed an \u201cinnovation exemption\u201d framework for expedited market entry of compliant on-chain products and services.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAn innovation exemption could help fulfill President Trump\u2019s vision to make America the \u201ccrypto capital of the planet\u201d by encouraging developers, entrepreneurs, and other firms that are willing to comply with certain conditions to innovate with on-chain technologies in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It was a \u201chuge day for Ethereum,\u201d said former developer Eric Conner, who added, if this becomes policy, the US becomes the crypto capital of the world:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEthereum gets regulatory clarity for staking, self-custody, and open-source infra\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ethereum is the industry standard for DeFi with an on-chain value of $68 billion, giving the network a commanding market share of 55%, more than all of the other chains combined, <a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/chains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according<\/a> to DeFiLlama.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">1\/ Huge day for Ethereum &amp;
