The payout is about $1 million more than the $750,000 O\u2019Neal was reportedly paid for his role in an FTX commercial.<\/p>\n<p>The former basketball star was among several celebrities, including Tom Brady and Larry David, who were sued for promoting the exchange before its<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tag\/ftx-collapse\"> collapse in late 2022.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Neal has maintained that he was simply a paid actor in the ad, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/15\/shaq-on-crypto-ftx-post-collapse-i-was-just-a-paid-spokesperson.html\">saying<\/a> after the exchange\u2019s collapse he was \u201cjust a paid spokesperson for a commercial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the settlement is approved, O\u2019Neal will be released from all future claims tied to the lawsuit. He will not be allowed to seek reimbursement from the FTX bankruptcy estate and will not have to admit any wrongdoing, according to the CNBC report.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed on behalf of FTX users who deposited funds between May 2019 and late 2022, before the company\u2019s dramatic failure.<\/p>\n<p>FTX\u2019s founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2024\/03\/28\/sam-bankman-fried-ftx-sentencing\"> sentenced to 25 years in prison<\/a> for defrauding customers and investors.
