VanEck\u2019s proposed spot Solana exchange-traded fund has quietly appeared on the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation\u2019s website under the ticker VSOL, placing the product in the clearinghouse\u2019s \u201cactive & pre-launch\u201d roster. \u201cBREAKING: VanEck\u2019s Solana ETF (VSOL) is now listed on DTCC\u2026 While not an SEC approval, it\u2019s a preparatory step, mirroring BTC and ETH ETFs,\u201d the analytics account SolanaFloor told<\/a> its 109,000 followers on X overnight.<\/p>\n

VanEck\u2019s Solana ETF Hits DTCC Listing<\/h2>\n

The DTCC entry signals that the fund\u2019s operational plumbing\u2014creation\/redemption identifiers, trade settlement codes and clearing eligibility\u2014has been assigned, even though shares cannot yet be issued. Derivatives and prediction markets reacted swiftly. On Polymarket, the contract that pays out if any Solana ETF is approved by 31 July 2025 now prices a 58\u201360 % probability, while the full-year contract has surged to 92%.<\/p>\n

Regulatory handicappers are still leaning bullish. Bloomberg Intelligence\u2019s Eric Balchunas wrote that investors should \u201cget ready for a potential alt-coin ETF summer with Solana likely leading the way,\u201d and together with colleague James Seyffart now assigns a 90% likelihood of eventual approval.<\/p>\n

Seyffart tempered near-term euphoria, however, warning<\/a> that \u201cthere needs to be a back-and-forth with the SEC and issuers to iron out details,\u201d recalling the flurry of paperwork that preceded January 2024\u2019s spot-Bitcoin launches.<\/p>\n

That dialogue is already under way. The SEC asked would-be issuers to amend their S-1 registration statements last week; seven managers\u2014including Fidelity, Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, 21Shares, Grayscale and Canary\u2014filed updates on 13 June. European digital-asset house CoinShares followed yesterday<\/a>, becoming the eighth entrant in the race.<\/p>\n

Macro structure also looks friendlier than during earlier alt-coin attempts. CME Group launched cash-settled futures<\/a> in mid-March, adding the asset to its regulated derivatives suite.<\/p>\n

While the DTCC listing does not bind the SEC, it places VanEck\u2019s fund on the same procedural track<\/a> that preceded January 2024\u2019s Bitcoin and July 2024s Ether approvals. Whether that track leads to a July debut\u2014or slips to year-end\u2014now hinges on how quickly staff conclude their review of staking language, custody mechanics and market-manipulation surveillance.<\/p>\n

For traders, the presence of VSOL on DTCC\u2019s screens is more than cosmetic: it demonstrates that, at least on the market-infrastructure side, the switch has been wired and tested\u2014waiting only for a regulatory finger to press \u201con.\u201d<\/p>\n

When SEC Approval?<\/h2>\n

Notably, the SEC delayed Franklin Templeton\u2019s spot-Solana ETF application yesterday\u2014a pause that analyst James Seyffart called \u201cexpected\u2026 [because] today was only an intermediary deadline.\u201d He added that the agency\u2019s ongoing dialogue over the updated S-1s for Solana-staking products is \u201ca very positive sign,\u201d even if \u201ctimelines for approvals are less certain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fellow Bloomberg ETF watcher Eric Balchunas concurred<\/a>, reiterating his 90% base-case odds of eventual approval while cautioning that the current \u201c2-to-4-week\u201d horizon is \u201cambitious\u201d: \u201cThe ball is in the SEC\u2019s court after the S-1s are re-filed; the dialogue between staff and issuers is a great sign, but the timeline is less clear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seyffart summed up the mood: \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be shocked if we see approvals in the next month, but I also wouldn\u2019t be surprised if we have to wait until the final deadline in October\u2026 At the end of the day, the SEC is engaging\u2014and that\u2019s a good sign.\u201d<\/p>\n
