{"id":33992,"date":"2025-06-27T08:02:32","date_gmt":"2025-06-27T08:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=33992"},"modified":"2025-06-27T08:02:32","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T08:02:32","slug":"does-ripple-really-own-48-billion-xrp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=33992","title":{"rendered":"Does Ripple Really Own 48 Billion XRP?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Ripple Labs is one of the oldest companies in the industry and it\u2019s behind one of the most popular altcoins \u2013 XRP.<\/p>\n<p>But the question of them dumping their own altcoin on the market to fund operations has caused serious controversy for many years and now, the discussion has been brought up again, this time highlighting the tremendous number of tokens that the company is in control of.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAll the XRP listed is owned by Ripple, thus the total should be the sum of the two numbers. Total XRP owned by Ripple: 48,306,585,931.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/uptownsaul\/status\/1938377144268104067\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">Pointed<\/a> out one X user.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This suggests that the company is in control of more or less $100 billion worth of tokens that it\u2019s using to fund operations and sells a portion of them every month.<\/p>\n<p>Chipping on the matter was the Ripple CTO, David Schwartz, who said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis would be correct if you don\u2019t think the XRPL escrow feature is actually escrow. Funds in an escrow are not held by the party who put them into escrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A senior software engineer, Mayuka Vadari, also chipped in on the matter, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTechnically (and legally), the escrow funds are temporarily being held by the network, not Ripple. Yes, those funds will ultimately go back to Ripple, but for the time being, there\u2019s nothing Ripple can do to access those funds (or do anything with them) before the unlock time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If it sounds like a technicality to you, that\u2019s probably because it is. As the saying goes \u201cif it walks like a duck\u2026\u201d you know the rest.
