At a city council meeting on November 26th, Mayor Ken Sim submitted his notice of motion, where he plans to introduce his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitco.com\/news\/article\/2024-11-27\/vancouver-mayor-proposes-creation-strategic-bitcoin-reserve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">proposed Bitcoin bill<\/a> on December 11th.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s proposal is titled \u201d Preserving the city\u2019s purchasing power through diversification of financial resources: Becoming a Bitcoin-friendly city. \u201d It aims to integrate Bitcoin into the city\u2019s financial system and make Vancouver a \u201cBitcoin-friendly city,\u201d using Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and promoting economic development.<\/p>\n<h2>Vancouver Makes A Move Towards BTC Adoption<\/h2>\n<p>Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is taking the necessary steps to prepare the city for the blockchain. As a <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bitcoin<\/a> supporter, Sim is pushing for widespread adoption to hedge against inflation and promote economic development. In a November 27th meeting, Mayor Sim <a href=\"https:\/\/csg001-harmony.sliq.net\/00317\/Harmony\/en\/PowerBrowser\/PowerBrowserV2\/20241127\/-1\/20611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">filed a motion <\/a>of notice detailing his plan to present the proposal to adopt Bitcoin on December 11th.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/72x72\/1f1e8-1f1e6.png\" alt=\"\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\">VANCOUVER, CANADA, MAYOR PUSHES FOR BITCOIN AS CITY RESERVE ASSET<\/p>\n<p>Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim announced plans to make the city \u201cBitcoin-friendly,\u201d proposing Bitcoin as part of its financial diversification strategy.<\/p>\n<p>A formal motion, set for December, could see the city adopt\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TI2rlSgYpX\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/TI2rlSgYpX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarioNawfal\/status\/1861857242016104785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">November 27, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the proposal, Vancouver will transform into a \u201cBitcoin City\u201d and authorize the city government to diversify its resources to include Bitcoin. If the council approves, residents of Canada\u2019s third-largest city can purchase Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>However, it isn\u2019t clear in the proposal if Sim also authorizes setting up a Bitcoin strategic reserve, similar to the one being pushed by US senator, Cynthia Lummis.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/x\/tsFV0oh3\/\" width=\"1847\" height=\"959\"><\/p>\n<h2>Mayor Sim And His Campaign For Bitcoin<\/h2>\n<p>Sim is one of the country\u2019s most vocal supporters of Bitcoin. During the campaign, Sim\u2019s party announced it would accept <a href=\"https:\/\/abcvancouver.ca\/2022\/04\/abc-vancouver-today-announced-that-it-will-accept-cryptocurrency-donations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cryptocurrency donations<\/a>. He explained that their commitment to blockchain technology demonstrates their plan to accept crypto as donations. During his tenure as city mayor, he rarely gave speeches or talks on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Interestingly, a book titled \u201cThe Bitcoin Standard\u201d by Saifedan Ammous was seen in the mayor\u2019s office during his interview with Global News on November 25th. Many observers pointed to this item in his office as evidence of the mayor\u2019s interest in crypto.<\/p>\n<p>Push For BTC Mainstream Adoption Intensifies<\/p>\n<p>Today, Bitcoin continues to surge in price thanks to a growing mainstream adoption. Sim\u2019s move to integrate Bitcoin into Vancouver\u2019s financial system is just one of the many proposals reported recently. According to Jeff Booth, a blockchain author, Mayor Sim\u2019s proposal aims to promote the adoption of Bitcoin as a reserve asset.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from Vancouver, a few states and governments are working overtime to fast-track <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/el-salvador-presidents-rent-a-volcano-bitcoin-mining-idea-ignites-crypto-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">Bitcoin\u2019s mainstream adoption<\/a>. For example, the state of Florida plans to tap a portion of its pension funds and use it to buy crypto. Pennsylvania is also planning to set up a Bitcoin reserve.
