Within minutes, ZachXBT\u2014whose meticulous wallet-tracking has underpinned investigations into more than $100 million in blockchain thefts\u2014accused Circle of turning a blind eye to sanctioned North Korean activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCircle \/ USDC is the primary infra used by DPRK IT workers to facilitate payments. They currently do NOTHING to detect \/ freeze the activity while boasting about compliance\u2026 I can point out high 8 figs in recent volume,\u201d he wrote, adding that the indifference is symptomatic of \u201cthe crime super cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Tether, Circle, Paxos All More Trustworthy Than Ripple?<\/h2>\n<p>An XRP supporter swiftly attempted to redirect the criticism: \u201cSo you\u2019re saying we should be using <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/ripple-created-rlusd-because-xrp-failed-bitgo-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">RLUSD<\/a> instead, eh?\u201d\u2014a reference to Ripple\u2019s yet-to-launch, asset-backed stablecoin. ZachXBT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/zachxbt\/status\/1939901297035288695\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reply<\/a> was unambiguous: \u201cI trust Circle, Paxos, or Tether infinitely more than Ripple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pressed to justify preferring <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/tethers-120-billion-treasury-stash-surpasses-germany-ranks-19th-globally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">Tether<\/a>\u2014whose opaque reserves have drawn scrutiny from US and EU regulators\u2014over Ripple, he gave a terse rationale: \u201cThey all at least have organic users whereas Ripple does not and theirs comes from misrepresenting paid partnerships to make it appear like adoption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The XRP advocate denounced that assessment as \u201clazy,\u201d citing integrations with AeonPay, Alchemy Pay and \u201cmillions of merchants,\u201d and argued that paying for partnerships is an industry-wide growth tactic. ZachXBT did not further elaborate, but the latest salvo is consistent with a trail of earlier broadsides.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2025 he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/zachxbt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">asserted<\/a> that a legitimate layer-1 chain can be gauged by the presence of native stablecoins from the \u201cbig three\u201d issuers\u2014Circle, Tether and Paxos. \u201cBoth ADA and XRP have zero from major stablecoin issuers\u2026\u201d he wrote at the time.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2025 he highlighted what he characterized as opaque treasury flows, noting that more than $109 million in XRP had moved from wallet rhREXVHV938ToGkdJQ9NCYEY4x8kSEtjna, activated by Ripple co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/how-much-ripple-execs-made-from-selling-xrp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">Chris Larsen<\/a>, to exchanges including Coinbase, Bitstamp and Bybit in a single month. \u201cWell I guess it\u2019s a good thing no one stalks XRP transfers from wallets tied to the founders\/foundation,\u201d he remarked sarcastically.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a February 2024 plea to investigate an alleged XRP scam address, he quipped that the wallet in question could not have \u201cscammed more than the XRP founders constantly dumping 9 figs on bag-holders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taken together, the remarks sketch a researcher who, while frequently critical of compliance practices at the stablecoin heavyweights, nevertheless views Ripple as uniquely untrustworthy\u2014chiefly for what he deems manufactured network adoption and persistent insider selling.<\/p>\n<p>At press time Ripple Labs, Circle, Paxos and Tether had not publicly responded to the latest remarks.
